The Chesterton Grand Prix: A Roaring Success!
Spectators watch as Pinewood Cars race down the track!
The inaugural Chesterton Grand Prix at Jackson Creek Pizza on February 15th was a thrilling spectacle, drawing racers young and old for a day of high-octane pinewood derby action! Forty meticulously hand-built and decorated cars lined up, ready to test their speed and design.
The racing was nothing short of intense, with several nail-biting photo finishes that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Ultimately, John Prendergast's vintage car, originally crafted by his son Brendan during his Cub Scout days, claimed the coveted Super Stock trophy. Not only did it win the class, but it also clocked the fastest time of the entire competition!
Adding to the excitement, our own Ricky Carrillo earned the "Best in Show" award for the most creatively designed car, which was chosen by popular vote from the enthusiastic race fans and attendees.
Beyond the thrilling races, the event also served a greater purpose. Spectators generously donated 85 canned and dried food items, which were delivered to St. Vincent de Paul to help those in need.
